Daily tasks:
- Lead client workshops and interviews with business and technical stakeholders. Elicit, challenge and structure requirements, constraints, risks, assumptions and success measures.
- Analyse business processes and data to identify material client problems and develop solution options with a clear business case, delivery feasibility and proportionate risk profile.
- Produce high-level solution architecture, key architectural decisions, integration and data design, and a delivery roadmap. Design for modularity, maintainability, scale and future evolution.
- Design cloud-first solutions using the platform and technologies that best fit the client context. Evaluate Oracle products and services alongside major cloud providers and open-source technologies, and make trade-offs explicit.
- Build security, privacy, resilience, performance, observability, operational supportability and cost control into the architecture from the outset.
- Plan incremental delivery: define a value-led minimum viable scope, delivery phases, acceptance criteria and outcome metrics so clients see measurable progress early.
- Identify AI, ML and GenAI opportunities where they have a credible business case, particularly for process automation, document handling, decision support and knowledge workflows. Assess data quality, security, cost and operational risks.
- Provide architecture governance during implementation: review designs and code-level decisions, support development teams, resolve trade-offs and uphold agreed engineering standards.
- Define and oversee the quality and test approach, including integration, performance, security, resilience and user-acceptance testing. Confirm readiness for production deployment.
- Present and defend recommendations with clients. Facilitate fact-based discussions of alternatives, costs, risk and delivery consequences in language suitable for both executives and technical teams.
Required experience and qualifications
Architecture and consulting
At least 6 years of experience delivering complex enterprise IT
solutions, including at least 3 years as a Solutions Architect, System
Architect or in an equivalent architecture role.
Proven experience in discovery, requirements analysis and
translating business problems into solution architecture, delivery backlogs or
transformation roadmaps.
Ability to make and document architecture decisions across
application, integration, data, security and operational concerns, balancing
business value, risk, delivery speed and total cost of ownership.
Experience governing delivery and collaborating with software
engineering, QA, DevOps and security teams; able to assess implementation
quality against architecture intent.
Cloud-native, integration and security technology
Hands-on production architecture experience with at least one
major cloud platform: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, OCI or an equivalent
environment. You must be able to design IAM, networking, secrets management,
storage, load balancing, API management, observability and logging for that
platform.
Experience selecting and designing managed cloud services for
compute, containers, databases, integration, CI/CD and infrastructure as code.
Practical knowledge of Terraform or an equivalent infrastructure-as-code tool
is required.
Proven experience designing cloud-native applications:
containerisation with Docker, Kubernetes deployment and operations,
infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automated deployments, horizontal scaling, fault
tolerance and operational monitoring.
Strong enterprise Java background, preferably Java 17 or later,
including REST APIs, asynchronous and event-driven integration, Spring Boot or
Micronaut, secure API design, error handling, transaction boundaries and
data-access patterns.
Practical experience with integration and API patterns: REST,
OpenAPI, message queues or streams, idempotency, retries, dead-letter handling,
contract versioning and API lifecycle governance.

Experience with enterprise architecture modelling and
documentation tools, especially Enterprise Architect or an equivalent platform.
Ability to create clear architecture artefacts: context,
component, deployment, integration, data and sequence diagrams. Working
knowledge of C4, ArchiMate or UML is required.
Experience setting quality practices for enterprise delivery,
including architecture and code reviews, test strategy, automated testing,
non-functional testing and technical risk management.
