POSITION SUMMARY The First Engineer is a senior officer in the Technical Department, responsible for supervising the engine room watchkeeping team and ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of all technical systems onboard. While not regularly assigned to watch duties, the First Engineer may assume watch responsibilities during critical operations or as needed. This role supports the planning and execution of maintenance, monitors performance of key machinery and systems, and ensures strict adherence to environmental, safety, public health, and security standards. The First Engineer also maintains coordination with the bridge and contributes to effective communication and emergency readiness. Promotes and enlivens the Gold Standards and Brand Culture and ensures the team does the same, particularly when assisting guests and Ladies and Gentlemen. Essential Duties Ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, Public Health, and Security standards during technical operations. Supervise technical personnel on watch, organizing tasks and maintaining safe working practices. Coordinate closely with the Bridge to monitor vital parameters and respond effectively during emergencies. Support planning and execution of maintenance tasks without disrupting the guest or employee experience. Maintain accurate records in the Planned Maintenance System and oversee timely completion of repair work. Initiate requisitions for spare parts and consumables while managing operational budgets. Conduct bunkering operations (fuel, oil, water) and waste processing in line with regulations. Oversee systems, including but not limited to Diesel Generators, Emergency Diesel Generator/Air Compressor Maintenance, Exhaust Gas Lines, LNG System, SCR & Urea System. Support the Chief Engineer in overseeing other systems (e.g. boilers, oily water separators, compressors, stabilizers, and water treatment). Participate in shipyard activities and support newbuild operations as needed. Qualifications Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to the position. STCW Chief Engineer's license (Motor) Unlimited. Diesel Electric Propulsion Certificate of Completion. Minimum three (3) years' previous experience as a cruise vessel Senior Watchkeeping Engineer; previous shipbuilding experience preferred. Excellent command of the English language. Exceptional knowledge of modern luxury shipboard equipment, systems, and operations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this job, the Lady or Gentleman is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Lady or Gentleman must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs, as well as full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities, are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency, including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. COMMUNICATION All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
