Senior Software Developer

We’re looking for skilled SRE engineers who will focus on improving the reliability and scalability of Joule Direct, a widely used energy trading platform. You will work across our cross-functional teams of software engineers, quality engineers and devops engineers to help drive systemic improvements to the reliability of our systems. Ideally you have many years of experience building and supporting large-scale software systems and you feel comfortable talking to infrastructure engineers about networking issues or kernel tuning as well as reporting .NET garbage collector bugs to Microsoft! The Role We’re looking for Senior Software Engineers to join our Joule Direct team, to help us build and improve our high-throughput, low-latency energy trading platform. You’ll be working with some amazing technologists to solve complex problems. For us, teamwork is everything. We listen to each other, we adapt, we evolve and we strive to innovate. We are making significant investments in our business and we will invest in you. Some of the work on any given day includes: Improve how we connect to an Exchange or Broker (eg. CME, ICE, EEX, etc) Implement customer facing features via SDKs and APIs Improve observability in hot paths Implement a new Automated Trading feature Benchmarking code to reduce latency and improve throughput Mentoring and coaching junior engineers Design, plan and execute complex features and raise RFC’s Our Tech Stack We use GitHub Copilot for agentic development Our services are written in modern C# and Rust We use a fair bit of SQL databases, Kafka, and RabbitMQ We run some services on dedicated hardware and on AWS We use Azure DevOps for build/deploy pipelines and story management Our observability stack is Splunk, Grafana, Pyroscope and Prometheus You For this position, you will likely be a very successful team member if: You like working in a cross-functional team with Product Managers, Testers and DevOps engineers You aim to deliver high quality work but can be pragmatic on tradeoffs in the interest of speed You have have a self-improvement mindset and seek feedback from your peers You get involved in all stages of development including planning, implementation and delivery You pair and mentor other engineers and expand your knowledge You lead and contribute to technical discussions Skills & Experience Knowledge or experience with financial markets will be highly valued Excellent communication skills Strong knowledge of C#, Rust or any popular programming language Can write efficient, concurrent code Knowledge of how distributed systems work Knowledge of version control systems If you are not an expert in these specific technologies but are familiar with an equivalent then we’re happy to train you.
