POSITION SUMMARY The Second Engineer is a licensed watchkeeping officer within the Technical Department, assigned to one of three rotational watch teams (W1, W2, W3). This role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of engine room systems during their watch and supervises routine and emergency maintenance activities within their assigned systems. The Second Engineer ensures strict compliance with environmental, health, safety, and security regulations while maintaining close communication with the Bridge to support safe vessel operations. Reporting to the Staff Chief Engineer, the Second Engineer also contributes to planning, documentation in the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), and emergency response. This position supports The Ritz-Carlton Gold Standards by maintaining uninterrupted technical operations and upholding the luxury guest experience at sea. Promotes and enlivens the Gold Standards and Brand Culture and ensures the team does the same, particularly when assisting guests and Ladies and Gentlemen. Essential Duties Serve as Engineer in charge of the watch, supervising and executing routine maintenance and emergency procedures. Ensure safe and compliant technical operations aligned with international and company standards. Supervise technical personnel and promote safe working practices during the watch. Maintain real-time communication with the Bridge; monitor machinery performance and take corrective actions when needed. Participate in maintenance planning with the Staff Chief Engineer, minimizing operational impact on guests. Update maintenance and repair tasks in the Planned Maintenance System; manage completion and documentation of assigned tasks. Requisition and manage spare parts and consumables; maintain inventory and budget control. Oversee and perform bunkering of fuel, oil, and water; manage bilge, sludge, and wastewater systems per regulatory requirements. Respond to emergencies, ensuring propulsion and engine plant integrity is always maintained. Qualifications Valid Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and flag certification for the duration of the contract and appropriate to the position. STCW Second Engineer's license (Motor) Unlimited. Diesel Electric Propulsion Certificate of Completion. Minimum three (3) years' previous experience as a cruise vessel Senior Watchkeeping Engineer; previous shipbuilding experience preferred. Excellent command of the English language. Exceptional knowledge of modern luxury shipboard equipment, systems, and operations. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS While performing the duties of this job, the Lady or Gentleman is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Lady or Gentleman must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be physically able to participate in emergency lifesaving procedures and drills. Full use and range of arms and legs, as well as full visual, verbal, and hearing abilities, are required to receive and give instructions in the event of an emergency, including the lowering of lifeboats. Ability to lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. COMMUNICATION All Yacht Ladies and Gentlemen must be able to communicate in the English language in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from guests, supervisors, and co-workers.
