Software Engineer

We are part of HL's product and engineering organisation, not an outsourcing company or shared service centre. Our teams in Poland and the UK jointly design, build and run the platforms used by HL clients. You will join Trade Execution, the team responsible for systems connecting clients with financial markets, including trade routing, order execution and broker integrations. The role combines new development with the modernisation and support of established trading components. What makes this role different? Your work directly supports trade routing and execution for millions of investors. Own services end-to-end, from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring and continuous improvement. Work with distributed, highly available and event-driven systems where reliability and observability matter. Contribute to technical decisions, service boundaries and implementation approaches, not just feature delivery. Help modernise an established trading platform while building new functionality. Work directly on HL products in a collaborative Poland-UK engineering team. We are looking for engineers who take ownership beyond delivery, enjoy solving production problems and care about reliability as much as they care about building new features. Technology Java | Spring Boot | AWS REST APIs | Microservices Kubernetes | ECS | EKS S3 | SQS | SNS | Lambda CI/CD | Trunk-Based Development Observability | Automated Testing What you will do Build and improve backend services using Java and Spring Boot Design and implement REST APIs and multi-service flows Develop and operate cloud services in AWS Write secure, maintainable and testable code, supported by automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests Support business-critical production systems and investigate incidents Use metrics, tracing, logging and monitoring to improve reliability and observability Contribute to solution design, technical discussions and code reviews Collaborate with Product and engineering colleagues across Poland and the UK to design, build and improve trading services What we are looking for Must-have Strong commercial experience building backend applications in Java using Spring Boot Practical AWS experience gained in production environments Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and microservices Experience owning services in production, including monitoring, incident investigation and reliability improvements Experience working with distributed, event-driven or highly available systems Understanding of observability practices, including metrics, tracing, logging and monitoring Understanding of testing, maintainability, security and engineering best practices Experience with containers and Kubernetes English at C1 level and Polish at B2 level or higher Nice-to-have Financial services, investment or trading systems experience JPA or Hibernate Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools Exposure to TypeScript, Node.js or React Equal opportunities We are an inclusive employer that values diversity in our workforce.
