About the role
At Railpen, we take a long-term view, protecting the future of the railways’ pension schemes through thoughtful decisions made today. We’re looking for a Process Improvement Analyst to help us analyse, redesign and improve the processes that support our members and colleagues.
Working within our Process Engineering team, you’ll support an important transformation project focused on preparing our services for future demand. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across Member Services and the wider organisation to understand current ways of working, identify pain points and risks, and turn complex requirements into practical, scalable improvements.
This is an opportunity to contribute to meaningful change, improve operational efficiency and help shape processes that deliver better outcomes for our members and colleagues

What you’ll be doing
Analysing end-to-end business processes to identify inefficiencies, risks and opportunities for improvement
Mapping current and future-state processes, including As-Is and To-Be models
Facilitating workshops and gathering requirements from stakeholders and subject matter experts
Translating business needs into clear requirements, process documentation and practical recommendations
Assessing how proposed changes could affect operations, systems, data, customers and other teams
Using quantitative and qualitative insight to build measurable benefit cases for change
Supporting the design and delivery of solutions that improve efficiency, compliance and member outcomes
Producing clear documentation, including process maps, functional specifications, standard operating procedures and supporting materials
Working collaboratively across teams to communicate change and support successful implementation
These responsibilities reflect the role’s focus on process analysis, requirements engineering, impact assessment, benefits realisation and clear process documentation.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring hands-on experience of analysing and improving complex business processes. You’ll be comfortable working with stakeholders to understand challenges, explore requirements and design improvements that are practical, measurable and aligned with wider organisational goals.
Essential
Experience analysing, redesigning and improving end-to-end business processes
Hands-on experience creating current and future-state process maps, including As-Is and To-Be models
Experience gathering, documenting and validating business requirements
Confidence facilitating workshops and engaging with stakeholders at different levels
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn information and insight into clear recommendations
Experience supporting process improvement, business change or transformation initiatives
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex information clearly
The confidence to challenge constructively, influence decisions and build effective working relationships
Experience producing clear process documentation and stakeholder-focused recommendations
Desirable
Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies
Experience using process mapping or process modelling tools
Experience working in a complex operational, customer-focused or regulated environment
Experience within pensions or financial services
Pensions or financial services experience was positioned as advantageous rather than essential in the previous advert, allowing the role to remain accessible to candidates with strong transferable process improvement expertise.
Why is this role exciting now?
Railpen is evolving the way services are delivered and preparing for future demand. This role will place you at the heart of that change, giving you the opportunity to influence how processes are designed, improve experiences for members and colleagues, and help shape the future operating model of Member Services.
You’ll be able to follow improvements from initial analysis and requirements gathering through to practical recommendations and measurable benefits, seeing the impact of your work across a significant transformation programme.
What you’ll get in return
A competitive salary (depending on experience)
28 days annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata to the length of the contract)
Defined Contribution Pension
